Carmen Black

Carmen Black comes from Bratislava, Slovakia — born in 1985 in a corner of Europe that has supplied the adult industry with more talent per capita than almost anywhere else. At 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm) with black hair and striking grey eyes, she has worked under more names than a spy novel protagonist: Carmen Blue, Carmen Klitt, Sheela and Zimova all appear on her paper trail, which tells you how many productions wanted her on the call sheet.

Her filmography swings between two worlds that rarely meet. On one side, the polished European studio circuit: Club Sandy and Pix and Video, where the lighting is soft and the scenarios play out like office daydreams — see 'Office Slut' or 'Come On Over for Some Tea.' On the other, the gleefully absurd parody catalog of White Ghetto, where she starred opposite Mario the Midget in titles that sound like they escaped from a late-night cable sketch show, plus a turn in 'Nasty Nurses' for good measure.

Not many performers can play both the glamour reel and the comedy reel without losing their footing; Carmen treats the whole spectrum as one job. The Slovak scene of the 2000s produced plenty of beautiful faces, but far fewer performers with a sense of humor about the business itself.

Carmen Black had both, and her scenes have aged the way good character acting does — the joke still lands, and so does everything else.
